I use a Lee Classic turret with the indexing rod removed for rifle calibres.

I load 17 calibres, with each set of dies in their own turret set up and ready to go.

Changing die sets is done in seconds and I can monitor each stage of the reloading process, as only one function is carried out at a time.

IMHO, a turret press such as the Lee represents the best of both worlds when it comes to presses.

I would not consider a progressive for 2 reasons, I don't need to produce large volumes of ammunition and there are too many functions happening at once to safely monitor.

I have also had a Lyman Spartan single stage press since the 70's and it still does sterling work sizing bullets and neck expanding brass.

Hi been looking at starting to reload pistol calibers (44. mag/.38special/.357 mag) due to just starting to shoot at my local club (been hunting for years) I am just entering my probationary period at the club and trying to gain as much info before i become a full member and open said calibers and start reloading. So what would people say are the best basics to own at first (brands/equipment/etc) don't want to throw money at things that just don't perform or don't get used. thanks for looking, Nick

there are lots of posts about this

it depends a lot on your budget, goals etc.

If you are just wanting quick, fairly accurate ammo for straight wall pistol cases, then lee turret press with their dies, won't see you far wrong. but you can throw a lot of money and get better systems. if you want to load rifle calibers for high accuracy a lot of people would not reccomend a lee turret
