To add to WelshShooter's response, here's a graph of single shot velocities using N150 and a 185gn bullet. In this case I joined the dots with a smooth line as I was interested in finding an optimum load for the barrel.

So the answer to your question is yes, the velocity increase with powder weight is approximately linear but it won't be a straight line.

Assuming that's the velocity you need, the flat section around 43.5gr looks to be perfect as your load can very a couple of tenths of a grain without causing significant changes to your velocity.

You really can't beat real world data :good:

You are spot on sir. I will be testing that load for ES and grouping at 1,000 yards next week.

The MV will give me in excess of 1,200fps at that distance. More would be better but it's a good start.

And here we have it. On a beautiful springlike morning at Stickledown with a light but variable breeze, this was my best 1,000 yard group shot prone off a bipod.

Awesome!!!

Just back from Stix myself, and in the beautiful late afternoon the light wind was from about 7 o/c, so the slight angle changes had a dramatic effect and were hard to read.

I'm not too good reading the wind but I got lucky with that group. Shot it quickly during a calm spell.
