I use powders like bullseye and unique so they get a good 'season' pretty quick with them. So yeah that is also something to check.
Did the screw fiddling help?

What do you use as a charging die? I'd looked at the Lee Charging Die Kit (2 dies) but it says "The long die is used to charge small capacity rifle cases ranging from 22 calibre to 30 calibre with a minimum case length of 1.403" to a maximum case length of 2.015" (Ex: 22 Hornet to the 308 Winchester) using the Auto-Disk Powder Measure."
... which rather implies 45-70 probably won't fit!

The 45-70 case won't fit the rifle charging die body, so what I do for 45-70 is take the powder through internal from the rifle charging die and drop it in the 45-70 expander body replacing that god awful powder through expander plug, works fine for me. Just make sure there is minimum flare on the case mouth.
