Ah, thank you. I did think it may be opened by racking it but wasn't sure if it closed with the bolt or hand. That is the one I have my heart set on. They seem to be thin on the ground for second hand ones so it looks like I may have to go with new one and a bit more saving. Still I am sure it will be worth it in the long run to get just what I want. Thanks very much for all the information it is much appreciated.

Yeah. Not seen many 2nd hand but that should tell you all you need to know :)
Do you have your heart set on a particular caliber, length or style?
If you're open minded it'll make it easier. Kranks are the importer but seems they don't order or at least recieve what ppl want. A and a gunsmiths seem to buy most of the stock though
I would really recommend a short stroke kit

Well it has to be a .44 as that is what I have on my ticket. I would also like the carbine version. I have looked on Henry crank's site and it looks like he does have that one in stock (if his website is up to date) I am not sure what the short stroke kit is though?
ooh! I just looked up A&A gunsmiths and they are just down the road from me! They also have an 1873 carbine in for a good price!

short stroke kit does what it says on the tin, it shortens the stroke of the lever, so you don't have to move it as much, to complete the cycle of the action.
give him a & a a ring, as the website isn't always current. let him know that braders referred you :)

Thanks for that. I am often up at the range when my shifts allow. I don't think I will be entering any comps yet but maybe in the near future. I will have to review my finances as I will also need to set up for reloading .44 too.

the comp weekends are all fairly laid back, and relaxed, anyone is welcome. you will have people offering advice, and even guns to try and use in the comp
