Nice looking rifle you have BTW

He has most likely seen this (The top mark is the original Russian imperial proof commission mark and the others are Czech markings added when the M91/38 was built.) from this web page
http://www.7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinM9138.htm (T in a circle & star in a star)
+1 very nice looking M38 and looks to have M38 wood not M44 which has the bayonet groove in the wood.

Hi all,
There’s quite a lot on the 91/38 on the web. E.g. this link too.
http://www.mosinnagant.net/global%20mos ... arbine.asp
As bnz41 says the T mark is thought to be a Czech proof mark. It’s interesting there are three. That’s more than I’ve seen on other 91/38s. The star is also I think Czech and presumably a socialist symbol suggesting a Cold War refit rather than in the 20s or 30s.
The stock does have an M44 bayonet groove, so I guess is a refit. Some of the other marks are black powder proofs! The circle B may be for Bulgaria.
From what I can gather the most likely original source of the M91 rifles were those brought back by the Czech legion after WW1 and the RCW down the trans Siberian railway and then probably stored.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czechoslovak_Legion
The Czechs with their excellent native arms industry presumably had no need for them until some later date when they were cut down. The first time they were seen in the West was in the hands of East German Border guard defectors. So it is possible they were for export. If the B is for Bulgaria that fits too. The old girl has definitely had an interesting life.

Flashheart the flame is great. Not very practical for a sniper but it looks awesome. :)

Actually, oomanski, according to the Commissar, you don't own the Mosina, just carry it until you have shot your 5 rounds and then the chap behind picks it from your dying paws, loads his 5 rounds, and advances a few more steps towards the evil capitalist machine gun nest...

A "circle B" on a Russian Mosin barrel shank is an unknown mark.....if it was a circle B on the stock it would be Hungarian as the B stands for Budapest.

The bird crest stamp with the letter N underneath is a German proof mark if that helps so at some point your rifle was in Germany.

Quite common as most UK Mosins come in via wholesalers in Germany, I believe WaffenSchumacher are one of the biggest and both my Mosins and my Romanian AKM have recent German proofs on them.

I didn’t find that one, so thanks. Is it a modern German proof? Not a Cold War East German one?

Modern German, I believe it is also the Germans that stamp "7.62 RUSS" on them
