Bullet choice for the 7.5x55 Swiss

Well time for a rethink, the Lapua which on closer inspection is Type L or Berger Hybrid 155 - I reckon that is Ouch either way. One thing I do have a load of of is Lapua 167 and Lockbase and the Prvi of course. As you say Ken, it is a 100 year old rifle so I doubt it will care unduly at this stage of its life. First job is a quick bit of load development and then make a call on what I will put through it for 300 yard stuff.

The Lapua 167s and Lockbases, especially the 170gn model are ideal for this rifle, as are all the older tangent ogive Sierras in any weight from 155 to 200gn. With my 1911 many years back I found it was very like loading a slightly larger capacity 308, and as easy.

Ken, Switzerland looks good this time of year. I worked there a long long time ago and was surprised to find that alpine type hotels were all made of clad concrete with triple glazed windows and swimming pools in the basement. A bit of a shock as I had expected them to be traditional wood construction, instead they were climatically controlled boxes. On a plus side I could hear the cowbells after I opened the double doors to the balcony, it is also attracted attention as a member of staff came to make sure I was OK as my room was getting cold.

Embarrassingly and worst still, I managed to lock myself on the balcony of the sixth floor of a hotel in Oslo in winter and had to ring home to ask the Viking to call the hotel to come up to my room to let me back in from the cold...

I'm looking at finding a load for a 174gn fmj (privi) bullet over V-n140 but only have data for 155gn scenars, 167gn and 185gn. So this being uncharted territory for me I was thinking of going for a load between the upper end of the 185gn data at 41.8 to the lower end of the 167gn data at 42.9. Does this sound feasible or just risky? I've had really good results with the 155gn scenars but at pushing £45 a box it seems wasteful at 100m and would like to use a similar loading to GP11. Thoughts?

I would also look at the corresponding .308 loads they will give you a starting point, I have used n140 but not for several years as I moved to RL17 (48grns with 174PPU bullet) this is not a max load and gives no problems in my rifle, sights seem pretty well on out to 600, for any longer I tend to use GP11

I ended up with 44 grains of N140 behind the 155 Scenar as a start load and it seems OK. I do have 170LB and 167 Scenar, both of which I would like to try however they do seem to seat short if built to 77,7mm - Anyone else noticed this?

dont forget the ogive shape of the GP11 is sharper than the Scenars if you build to fit the chamber you will end up with a lot of the bullet in the case, I wouldn't worry too much as there is a lot of the case left empty with N140 razz
