Hopefully a learning curve in straight pulls.
If I were shooting out to 400 yards I would be after at least 1" at close range

There are 2 in our club that I know of. At 300m one will definitely match the AR15s, the owner says he hasn't done anything to it!!?!

The earlier Mini 14s with the lightweight barrels and crude sights struggle to get groups less than 3" @ 100 yards. Barrel whip and vibration seems to be part of the problem and as the barrel heats up the group size increases.
The current production with a thicker barrel and better sights is a tighter shooter, still not as accurate as an AR but not bad.
A fix for the lightweight barrel issues are to add a barrel support strut and a weight at the muzzle. Better sights help too. I added a Tech sight to the rear.
I did this to mine and turned it from a 9 ring shooter to a 10 ring shooter. My ARs will go the the X ring so the Mini will never be a match rifle but still, it is handy and fun to shoot.
As a straight pull rifle it should be easy to function.

There is one I've been looking at which has a folding stock and a silver coloured barrel. They are asking £695 with a small Belarus scope and 1x10 rd, 1x5rd mag. Is that too much? It is tidy.

I was lucky. I paid £250 for mine with bipod and 50 rounds of ammo.
The only reason I bought it was the A Team factor and the ability to fit a ceiner .22 kit

You don't need to do that, Ruger offers a version already chambered in 300 Blackout.

Yeah but that would probably involve full price cost buying.
