I sometimes use Trail boss in my under levers (.32/20, .38/40, .44/40). My other choice for these calibres would be Unique. If you look at Henry Krank's prices for these powders they are £39.60 for 1lb of Unique and £30 for 9ozs of Trail Boss - that equates to £53.33 per pound for the latter.
If we use .38/40 as an example the starting load for Trail Boss is 4.5 grains and for Unique 6.5 grains. So with Unique I would get 1077 shots per pound - 3.68p per shot. With Trail Boss I would get 1555 shots per pound - 3.43p per shot.

See if you can find some GM3, I paid £42/Kg for it so £19.09/lb, 6gr in the 44mag works out a very miserly 1.64p per load :)

Comparing Trailboss to to Unique is comparing a fast pistol powder to a medium pistol powder so Trailboss is bound to use less. An apples and oranges comparison.

My go to powder for all these pistol calibres is N320, a fast pistol powder comparable to Trail Boss. 4 gns in a 38-40 for instance works out at tuppence (2p) per pop.

I used TrailBoss however of late I have been using N310 which seems to be quite predictable and meters well being spherical.

N310 is another fine fast pistol powder slightly faster than N320, it does meter like water but can leak in certain powder dispensers hence my preference for the larger grained N320.

I use Trailboss for shooting my Marlin 45/70 on indoor ranges. Reduced recoil and ME.

12 grains of Trail Boss behind a 405gr bullet is a nice mild 100 yard load.

Likewise for .444 Marlin on short-distance outdoor shooting. It's very well suited to these large capacity cases.
