I'd go with Colin R on this one S&B Brass has a poor reputation for reloading with a lot of splits and neck failures so just stick to Privi or FNM if you find any. I have some FNM cases that must have been reloaded 20 times (Neck sizing for the most part) and I used 41gr N140 with the 174 bullet

S&B .303 has a shocking rep for reloading, as stated HXP or PPU is good.

The case is not particularly thick, it was designed for BP originally. Early on I had case head seps regularly until I neck sized only, I have not had one since.

A lot of folk use N140 41gr as standard, I have had good results having dropped mine to 39 of N140 and crimping the necks.

Sadly, when I could get them the S&B bullets were better than the PPU bullets (in my No4) but its what you can get these days!!!

Links to web sites are allowed in the signature. I and others do that, I do not and never have advertised anything of mine on this forum, your accusation is just plain wrong as anyone can link to their website in their signature and if you bothered to look rather just looking for cause to create you would see that others in this thread do the same thing and they are members not moderators. Advertising specific items is not allowed in the signature as we have a for sale and wanted section for that, as you well know.

Still never let the facts get in the way of spurious accusations.

No experience of .303 S&B brass but all the 7.62x54r S&B brass I have seems to have shallow primer pockets, some primers sit flush and some are everso slightly proud once seated with both RWS and Winchester primers.I binned them and stuck with PPU brass.

We should all bare in mind that ammunition manufactures don't produce their product with the re-loader in mind.

Factory loaded S&B .303 ammunition performs perfectly well and is manufactured to perform once, much like a box of matches.

It's a happy circumstance that brass from other ammunition producers seem to go beyond the initial firing.

Possibly...although I am not sure then why PPU would sell brass virgin unfired.

Lapua might have some input regarding this as well. I am not aware of factory loads being available in .308 with small primer pockets, although every day is a school day. Their small primer .308 brass is certainly legendary for high performance hand loads.

Yes we have had problems with shallow primer pockets too using Federal primers. Upshot is we won't be buying any more S & B .303 loaded ammunition if, as has become clear, it cannot be reloaded. If we need commercial .303 it will be PPU, but fortunately we have plenty of PPU and FNM brass to keep us going.
