Barrel tuners on F Class rifles

My rifle has had 500 rounds through it. I started out with the intention of putting the sight block on, then removing it to see how much difference it made.

The switch from the .223 to the .308 was not as easy as I thought it would be. I have spent many weeks dealing with every issue under the sun. Some weeks I almost went back to my .223 because I thought I would never grasp the concept. Unfortunately, I said this out loud, so Rod sold my .223 :? :lol: I had no choice, but to continue.

In the end, I went to a PM, with the sole aim to waste the weekend, and just bond with my rifle and sort the issues out. It is so much easier, when someone is down the other end pulling targets for you. By the last range of the PM, I had most issues sorted.

Three weeks ago, I moved the rifle from the front rest (which we can use for Std here) to the bipod. Well the rifle just loves the bipod. I have now reached the point where she is shooting so well, I am afraid to touch anything!

So at this stage will not be removing anything. :lol:

Does it work? I don't know, but I'm not taking it off to find out! :lol:

Goal is to match barrel resonance with ammunition characteristics. If you hand load, it is easier to tune the load to your barrel than your barrel to your load.

Rimfire shooters don't typically hand load, so a barrel tuner makes sense, for F class it does not.

Heh! Top man, I will remember that for a suitable situation in this house.

It is a stunning looking rifle, the Eliseo chassis looks good, it has an INCH action and it shoots, what more could you ask for? (Don't answer that!) What distances are you shooting with it and with what weight bullets?

Since switching to bipod, and different rear bag, all elevation shots have gone.

I cannot believe how accurate this rifle is. It is scary. Even with me at the controls. :lol:

We shoot from 300 to 1000 yards. So far I have shot 300 - 500 only dropping 2 out of 180 points!

The only thing I require now, is the ability to read conditions. :lol:

Where was the bipod (assuming you had one) mounted on your 223?
On your 308 (one and only, can't believe he sold it!) it is mounted in the middle. Just wondering if that is better than at the front?

I'm using 155 grain HBC bullets.

My .223 was a F std stock, which are the same as F Open stocks. Wide flat front, to be used off a rest.

This is the first time I have used a bipod, and I am loving the change. So much easier to cart gear!

The bipod is mounted as far forward as the slot will allow. It works well from this position.

Shooting off the wide footprint bipods is a revelation, the improvement in stability and reduced hop makes a big difference to the shooting, I know of one F Open shooter who shoots off a bipod to good effect. Given the opportunity I would give up my FO front rest as is is a pain to haul around.

From what you are saying I shall give the position of the bipod some consideration. I know I am limited to where I can place it but I still think I can move it slightly back. Might be worth a try.

I went from Harris bipod to front rest to ski design bipod and the ski design is a revelation!

It works very well indeed.

I also have the original Davies bipod which weight 1/2 kilo more than this one. Rod is going to trial it in F Open.
