Counter boring is a common method of fixing a damaged barrel. The mas36 is counter bored but Im not sure counter boring 6 inches is going to work.

....or drop it in a Tupperware stock for your collection. Another key-hole spectacular to suit your style of shooting!Sim G wrote:Oh you so want to chop that! Cut it, thread it, get a moderator load sub sonic lead bullets and spray it green.....
You'll sell it in no time then. Probably to pe4king. Or Hobbsey....
I think the guy is just looking to work out how he is going to sort his problem out with this rifle that obliviously has a problem.Sim G wrote:Oh you so want to chop that! Cut it, thread it, get a moderator load sub sonic lead bullets and spray it green.....

Well done that man a sensible answer to his question I applaud you.kennyc wrote:OK just checked out your ad, its a .223, if it has a 22" barrel then knocking it back to 16" would make it a very nice little Foxing Truck gun, rethreading and crowning at Neils would probably set you back circa £80 he might cut it for that as well you would have to ask, you would then have something worth selling on, as opposed to your current view to scrapping it, got to be worth a thought?
It is indeed a sensible answer, one slight problem may be the barrel is closer to 18" than 22", at least the bit from the end of the receiver is, so there is limited scope for chopping back and staying legal. I suspect it would need a moderator with such a short barrel to avoid being obnoxiously loud! I only shoot at Bisley, so have to bear in mind the chap on the next firing point.Alpha1 wrote:Well done that man a sensible answer to his question I applaud you.kennyc wrote:OK just checked out your ad, its a .223, if it has a 22" barrel then knocking it back to 16" would make it a very nice little Foxing Truck gun, rethreading and crowning at Neils would probably set you back circa £80 he might cut it for that as well you would have to ask, you would then have something worth selling on, as opposed to your current view to scrapping it, got to be worth a thought?
barrel will be measured from the closed boltface, not the front of the reciever. If Neil is that close, a visit to him would probably give you the quickest, definitive answer.shugie wrote:It is indeed a sensible answer, one slight problem may be the barrel is closer to 18" than 22", at least the bit from the end of the receiver is, so there is limited scope for chopping back and staying legal. But a visit to Neil might be a good idea, he's only five minutes drive away.
I'm surprised by that length as the specs say the shortest barrel is 20" but who knows what has been done in the past?shugie wrote:It is indeed a sensible answer, one slight problem may be the barrel is closer to 18" than 22", at least the bit from the end of the receiver is, so there is limited scope for chopping back and staying legal.
