I certainly wouldn't include it with a renewal. I'd supply the info if asked. But supplying it automatically is a nice way to set precedents

But they have to do this anyway. Just because your FAC lists ammo does not mean to say you have shot it.
So during a renewal it's customary to visit you and check the firearms you have listed, your storage facilities, rounds held, and then contact your clubs to see how often you have attended. Then contact your referees, and then your GP.

Listing reloads would be just one more item with unintended consequences. If you cast your own bullets you'd have to list them, then it's be an inventory of your primers, cases etc, etc. In the end you'd possibly end up having to account for each damaged or lost component and even maybe your propellent use. You can just see how the powers that be that are not keen on shooting sports would meddle to the nth degree. In the end the faff involved would kill reloading.

But surely you book yourself into your local range, do you not? I'm a member of three rifle clubs and all of them require me to sign in each visit and document which firearms I'm using. Surely that is sufficient evidence to show you have good reason to possess them? I would just recommend the FEO to get in contact with the club secretary who would relish at the thought of checking all historical range logs...

The only ammo that's ever been shown on my FAC is 22lr. Durham have never asked about any other calibre.

I do keep records for every calibre I load purely for my own use, if required I could give them PDF copies but as I said they've never ever mentioned it on renewal.

Cheers Jeff, good to know. Will just be keeping copies of receipts from now on so they can be produced if asked for.

i keep a jar of spent primers on my bench for this very reason. He's welcome to count them anytime....

Last time I renewed the guy doing the inspection said to me you have no ammunition on your certificate do you reload. I answered yes and that was it. I do keep records but that's for my own use.

When I renewed with Thames Valley 5 years ago I hadn't bought any ammo for the previous 5 years as I reload so none on my FAC. I keep records of my reloads for my own interest/use but my FEO wasn't interested in these handloading records showing how many rounds I'd fired. He was though interested in the number of times I'd fired a particular gun. I'm not sure how official it is but I'm told that if we don't use a gun at least 3 times a year we could lose it unless of course we have a good reason for not doing so. Records of gun use are kept at the clubs where I shoot and the FEO knows he can contact the club secretary if he wants to see them.
I'm just doing the forms for renewal so it'll be interesting to see if anything's changed.

The official line now is that three times a year (per rifle) is required for target shooters.
