Id take a bitsa that has mismatched (untouched) numbered parts with the original stamped font, than one of these magical just found yesterday all matching museum pieces, any day of the week , and twice on a Sunday. Because if people are force marking the guns, then they are probably bitsa's anyway.

Not saying they are not out there, and that every matching gun is fakery. Just look on ebay.com now and again , you can buy the Nazi stamping tools, proof marks, inspections , the lot.

It's a minefield

I have personally seen a complete set of genuine wartime waffenampt stamps in the original wooden case in the UK.

So at least one individual here has the means to retrospectively mark firearms.

Ovenpaa wrote:Ha, it is not just 'Many years ago' either. I can think of a few who do similar these days, some are open and some less so. If I need parts I have a couple of people I go to and I know they are original and not messed around with.
It is done even more these days I bet.
I also like the "Russian" electro pencilling over the fresh re-blued metal parts on K98's .... with the same handwriting style on 20 other guns conveniently in the same shop...

Hehe, I can remember when it was fashionable to scrub off Russian capture marks...

All German rifles/munitions had WaA marks, do you mean the SS runes instead?

No - what I saw was the WaA marking kit - not SS.

It looks like this rifle is being sold by The Antiques Storehouse in Portsmouth dockyard. So it is a trade sale not a private sale.
