Question, he mentions PSNI approval, I know that centrefire semis were actually banned in NI by the firearms order 1989, not the 1988 act, I've heard some mumblings that the order isn't written the same and thus allows full "down-converting" unlike the mainland UK, is there any truth to this?Ovenpaa wrote:That is Mervyn Young, his SLR's are GBP1500 and are still S5 despite being straight pull.ordnance wrote:Try here. I carried one for long enough but can't get my head around why anyone would actually want to own one, other than for old times sake. My opinion only of course

The firearms act 1988 applies to NI, however not all sections apply !
Basically section 1 applies (ban on self loading rifles etc )
Section 7 (down conversion) does NOT apply ! It seems the uk government thinks the northern Irish Are more trustworthy then English, Scots and Walsh

Someone with a lot of money should apply for a judicial review of the act on the grounds of racial discrimination.joe wrote:The firearms act 1988 applies to NI, however not all sections apply !

In an ideal world new S.1 compliant Imbel M964 A1 MD1 from Brazil would be the best straight pull new build FAL/SLR:
http://www.imbel.gov.br/index.php/fuzis ... inas#tab-2
After that there is a US company DSA that are making new FAL DSA:
http://www.imbel.gov.br/index.php/fuzis ... inas#tab-2
https://www.dsarms.com/c-828-rifles.aspx
Problem is Straight Pull military rifles are an extremely niche market even within the UK where they are the most prevalent. Whilst it would be not particularly challenging for those companies to produce a straight pull version of those rifles by omitting the gas port the export/import paperwork is onerous for what would be a very limited economic return.

I think the straight-pull market's a bit old hat now. IMBEL have supplied new receivers to the UK market before, so if someone could come up with a self-unloading self-loading-rifle... I bet they would be quite popular.
