If you use 3 posts, you would then have a sturdy rail that could be secured by only one thumb screw on the middle "leg".
Just a thought...
Would make it easier to lower or higher whilst behind the scope, and also for dropping down out the way for bolt removal, which if you're like me is after every time it's shot for storage and cleaning... :)
Alternatively you can go for two posts and use collars for a returnable height and utilise rare earth magnets for ease of removal for cleaning/bolt removal etc.

I chopped it out this afternoon, I opted for the old fashioned way with a coping saw. the reel of tape is there as a spacer until I decide on how best to support the cheek piece. I was going to go with a couple of pillars however I am tempted to machine a plate instead, either way it needs to be simple to compliment the rifle.

Here's mine.......supported on three s/steel posts, sliding in lengths of s/steel tube epoxied into butt. Middle one threaded M8 with adjusting wheel.
Cut out with a fine tooth tenon saw. Lifts out for bolt removal/cleaning.
Rough and ready, but works fine.

Here is mine with the inserts machined and glued in place, I used stainless for everything and the pillars can be unscrewed if I ever feel the urge to change the length which is unlikely.
All that is left now is a final light sanding and oiling and drill for the locking screws and add some inserts so the grub screws are neat and flush to the stock. Yes, I used the dog to hold the removable section in place, he watched with about as much interest as you can get from a Labrador half asleep in the sun.

It is a Montecarlo type stock so I placed the bushings in line with the natural centre of the butt to rear action screw as opposed to the middle width wise. I had a couple of options however this was the most aesthetically pleasing solution and it looks good from all angles.
