All this makes me wonder about the ergonomics of rifles. I personally prefer to have a good cheek weld when shooting a rifle at distance and often have the opportunity to try many rifles for fit and the vast majority of 'scoped rifles have a cheek piece that is way too low for my liking and I am obviously not unique based on the number of after market soft cheek pads fitted. My view is this is due to a combination of an original rifle style designed for open sights coupled with telescopic sights eventually with larger objectives requiring taller ringsets and bases. Time for a re-think of the basic design maybe?

On the subject of cheek pads I have just fitted one to a rifle we have here and even with the pad I found the cheek to be low for me with a small objective 10X 'scope with fairly low rings. For me a rifle needs to fit when it comes to my shoulder and I need to have a clear target picture without having to move my head around/lift it away from the cheek pad.

If you have a barrel burner you could keep a list of how many rounds you have fired in the pouch.

I had the same scenario when I fitted one to my (wifes) Ruger-I padded it out with one of those yellow kitchen sponges with the scouring pad. Foam side against the stock and rough side against the inside of the pouch. Fits like a glove and doesnt move at all.
Patent applied for ;)

That is a good idea Meaty, the Viking used to have a black stretchy skateboard knee/elbow pad as her cheek pad and that worked nicely as well.

If you need a raised comb for any reason other than using a scope on a rifle designed for iron sights..... or a comb on a shotgun, you have bought the wrong gun :squirrel:

Only the base is laminated birch wood, the rest is leather/vinyl and padding.Later versions have a polymer base and even later versions are black. On the SVD it is removeable so the ironsights can be used.
