How long ago did you have it done?

I have dark shadows at the side of the eyes like Christel were the lenses went in. I don't notice them mutch now a days but I did at first. Both my eyes have the same lenses in. I use glasses for close up work. As Christel said I would only get it done if you really have to.

Thanks for the advice. I'd like to put it off but don't want my shooting to go downhill while I'm still otherwise fit.

I will ask the consultant how many of his patients (victims? ) have experienced this problem.

I asked my consultant about the reflections and was told it happens, nothing to be done, guess it is a lottery thing.

I think the shadows on the side will eventually be forgotten, one gets used to things over time.

I hope so. Just done a quick Google and it's called negative dysphotopsias:

"Patients see a temporal, dark, crescent-shaped shadow in the peripheral that increases with bright light and usually resolves in 80% of cases in 2 years".

"Negative dysphotopsias are thought to occur in only 0.5% to 2.4% of patients".

Not had it done ...yet....just trying to get glasses to solve it but optician cant seem to give me a correction to the image blur/overlap(yes I tried Specsavers ). its not to bad when wearing decent sunglasses. Maybe I should get a pair for distance and a pair for reading BUT...I was told with distance glasses you cant see the car dials, not sure if this is right.

Glasses won't solve it. Once the lens in the eye starts to fog the only remedy is to remove the lens and fit a artificial one.

Clowns they are, I went there ages ago when my eyes started to get funny, bloke who tested me said I needed stronger contacts, didn't even spot the cataract.

A week later I went to the hospital for something unrelated and I happened to mention my eyes and the consultant shone a torch in my eyes and told me I had the start of cataract.

Absolutely nothing one can do about it, until it gets really bad and then it is the lens out and a new one in.

I think we are talking about two things here.

The crescent shaped shadow which is the scar (as far as I understand it).
The reflections (coming from the artificial lens).

Both may go away after awhile.

What I am chuffed about now is my excellent everyday vision, I can see colours in their full glory, the tractor on the next field and the birds in the sky.
Reading glasses have just become part of life now.

Shooting is not a problem however as I have always used a scope it wasn't before.

You won't see the dashboard clearly with distance glasses.

Your options would be:

• Varifocal glasses
  Monovision contact lenses (one distance lens and one reading lens)
  Multifocal contact lenses

I have all the above and they all work well for me, but can't fix my cataract or the partial vitreous detachment (I often wonder if shooting caused that ).
