Just to qualify this (sorry Dan), Sierra produced the 168gr SMK for 300m match. It had a very steep boat tail and was very successful....for 300m shooting.

Then most of the other companies simply copied the design (as they do) meaning that now pretty well "All" 168gr .308 HPBT match bullets were tarred with the same brush (and in reality had the same problem).

I suppose it was a bit like an efficient flat based bullet. There are occasions where these are more precise but as soon as they need to slow down progressively or go marginal they start arriving sideways.....which is why the 168 gets a rough ride with people wanting to shoot past 300. Actually I dont know what range they might play up at, I guess it depends on all sorts.

These days there are 168s that dont suffer from the above, I think Berger and possibly Sierra offer them with more appropriate boat tails for longer ranges.

I guess the watch word is dont by them by the thousand unless you have tested them fully at the ranges you need.

Probably just a SMK 168 thing.
I use 155 and 167 scenars out of my Schmidt at 900 yards.
Both arrive pointy end first.

I think it's only past 600x that things go tits-up, or rather, tips-sideways, but you can get further if you drive them hard enough.

The clones with the same behaviour include the Nosler CC 168 and the Speer. AFAIK most others (including the TMK) don't suffer the problem and have a boat-tail angle suitable for LR.
