I have a 40 year old Russian PSO-1 sniper scope that has an active IR detecting function on it, at night it can pick up an IR emission from an illuminator out to around 600m.The IR sensitive screen is brought into play by turning a knob on the side of the scope which drops the IR sensitive screen into the field of view, this screen is "charged" by light entering a small window on top of the scope during daylight or by holding it near a fluorescent light for a while.The IR emission shows up as a greenish blob, dial in the range and aim at or just below the blob and thats it.Makes you wonder what the Russians have now that would counter this type of system.

Puts the presenter who had never fired a rifle before against an army sniper at 1000 yds.
I also got to shoot it at Vegas a couple of years ago - impressive but it don't read the wind.
