Duey how up to date is your for sale section on the offas Dyke web site.
Offas dyke is obviously in Wales but Pickering is that also in Wales.

I have handled a lot of scopes lately and have been buying and selling a few. Of the lower end scopes Inwould say that the MTC range of scopes show the best build and glass quality I have a Mamba on my .38/357 Gallery rifle after several predecessors and it is the best so far at that price range. If you can push out to £250-350 then I would say Vortex Viper (your budget will dictate what model) the controls on this feel very good and of course you get a great transferable lifetime warranty, if you can find a Nikon Monarch at this price that is a great option too. This is, of course, a personal opinion but it is based on having 50-60 scopes through my hands just in the last three years. As you may observe from a previous string, this journey has ended up in the purchase of a S&B PMII and you will see that, despite the level of praise that scope gets it still has its detractors! The other thing is make sure that if you are buying a side parallax scope it will adjust down to the 25yd range you shoot at regularly, although that sounds a bit of a sledgehammer use a .222 at that range.

Unfortunately the majority of my shooting due to poor range access is at 25 yards. Once a month I get to shoot out to 500yards but that is only at knock down figure 11 targets. So shooting for groups is a waste of time really.
I don't like .22 rim fires you can not reload for them so I'm not interested. The .222 is a recent aquisition I intend to shoot cast bullets through it at 25yards when I eventually get sorted. I have just sold the very scope you have been discussing in your post total overkill for what I do.

Offas Dyke Rifle Club is admistratly based in the midlands, but shoots all over the country, at military ranges, and is heavily affiliated with the FCSA ( Fiffty Cal Shooting Association) shooting over gallery and field firing ranges at Kingsbury, Sennybridge, Warcop, Lydd, Rogiot more and occasionally a few others that I cannot bring to mind
I believe that the for sale section on the web page is admistered by John the secretary of the club but I don't think I've ever seen it updated to say if anything on there has been sold, I assume you just contact the advertiser direct and ask the questions

I moved to the Lincolnshire Wolds last year from the Midlands and have just joined Pickering club which is in Yorkshire, the other side of Beverly from Lincoln about 90 minuets from where I live
The reason I have joined them is that they have their own 100/200/300 yd outdoor range and also shoot at Strensall at 300/500/600 yds if the military actually don't cancel the shoot days for greater needs!!!

Pickering is about one and a bit hours drive from were I live.

None of the scopes mentioned focus down to 25 yards they are 50 yards to infinity. Guess I'll keep looking.

Looks like most of the Nikko Stirling scopes focus down to 10 meters and are reasonable scopes for not a lot of pennies
Also a lot of the variable scopes with max power of 18 or 20 power seem to focus down to 10 meters and will still be adequate for shooting out to 500/600yds
Have a good long look on the optics warehouse site as I mentioned before as its one site that has a huge amount of different scopes to compare against each other, if you find one you like then you can go looking elsewhere for price options or secondhand ones

Just a thought Alpha, but glass is very subjective, so if you get one you like, chances are it will stay with you as rifles change.

Consider a second hand higher end scope if the price is right, particularly if the warranty goes with the scope.

I liked the MTC range as they have some nice rets and features. For a low recoiling rifle (.223 max) the little viper connect is a superb little scope. Fantastic FOV, good in low light (great for rabbitting at dusk) but it does have zero or close eye relief to wont work well with recoillers.

I still have a prototype on my last remaining air rifle.

I have never owned a Vortex scope, but there seems to be a hell of a lot of them about on the CSR circuit so they must take a beating.

The only thing that bugged me with the 2 sightrons I had (I still have one) was the markings on the elevation vernier (made no sense so I overlaid it). They do quite a range of scopes so may be worth a look.

Hi again Alpha 1 I have just checked the parallax minimum on my MTC Mamba lite and it goes down to 10mtrs. A lot of the lower end scopes do this including some mid ranges like the BSA And Hawke models as they capture the air gun FT market a lot of which takes place at 10-50 Mtrs. I note also that Maggot has just commented on the MTC's favourably as well.

Also might be worth a read of this string from one of the air gun sites. parallax and focus are not the same thing, not trying to preach as there is a lot of that on the forums just trying to illuminate a bit.
