Really? There's anecdotal and actual evidence around the web showing 3500 to 4000 round count. One Sniper Hide Cup shooter has a Bartlein barrel in .260 with a documented 5000 round count...

I know of one with just over 4500 rounds through it and still getting use at 1200 yards.

My AE in 260 now has 3500 rounds through it and still holds the V at 900.
Being an AI rifle I don't expect re-barrelling to be a major cost .
Its the F range trips that rack up the round count for me!

Thanks all for comments so far. As far as cases go (I tend to refer to the whole as a bullet, it is a bit like calling a lamp a bulb) I have read up the different methods of fire forming, you are right more tedious than onerous, but possibly greater than my enthusiasm! I am thinking that for the frequency with which I might shoot over these distances that it is looking more like want than need, I am still open to persuasion if someone has a convincing argument. One of the guys at the club has one but we have been on opposing details the last few LR shoots so I haven't even had a chance to try his yet.

The bullet is the projectile, the whole assembly is called the cartridge.

The 260 is reload only option for good long range loads but the creedmoor should start to get decent factory fodder trickling through soon ?

Thanks tackb sometimes whatever you put down someone with a beard will feel the need to 'educate' I mean I have only been shooting forty years you think I might get it right by now!

I think I will hang fire on this spend for the time being, they seem to be trickling through now, but thanks again for your comment.

Ballistically the 6,5x47 is not so different and factory ammunition is readily available, have you considered it?
