I have tried a few powders with subs and TB is always the easiest to work with and gives very consistent results plus I prefer to work with a reasonable fill level. I also shoot factory Lapua subsonic ammunition which in my opinion is the best factory stuff available.

Not sure how it would work in .308 but I use Lil'Gun in 300Whisper. With the 220gn bullets it is whisper quiet and very consistent. Also cheap to buy (and I was given two tubs by a friend who wanted to load shotgun cartridges and thought better of it, so I needed a use for it
).
Hodgdon give a max load for .308Win as 9.0gn with a 220gn bullet and 8.7 with a 230, they also suggest it is subsonic at 1077fps.

Out of curiosity, where did you find that load? On the Hodgdon website (the reloading data centre) they only list 8.0gns of Titegroup or Clays with a 168gn A-Max bullet for 308 Win subsonic loads.Mattnall wrote:Not sure how it would work in .308 but I use Lil'Gun in 300Whisper. Where do you obtain these David?Ovenpaa wrote:Lapua B416 would be my choice and is the only bullet I use for .308 Subs, I always make sure I have some handy.
I was amazed just how quiet the Lapua Subsonic is - fired through my 20" with Tier One Spartan III over-barrel moderator it produced little more than the Hollywood "phutt".Ovenpaa wrote:I have tried a few powders with subs and TB is always the easiest to work with and gives very consistent results plus I prefer to work with a reasonable fill level. My previous source of this was a trade with some itinerant secretive gentlemen from the Welsh borders - again, what's the source for this precious commodity?
Re: Heavyweight .308 bullets for subsonic use
Rob, I came a cross a place with a few hundred very sensibly priced and on the shelf a year or so ago, it seemed rude not to stock up again. Same goes for the factory subs which is why I shoot them.

Roger that David - I shall have to speak to my highland connection and see what he comes up with. Otherwise I'll have to hope a certain bunch of covert gentlement come north to shoot deer again.

My mistake, I think that is the 300AAC loadings from their website. Sorry.Sandgroper wrote:Out of curiosity, where did you find that load? Rob, have you tried Hannams, they usually have a few boxes on the shelf.DW58 wrote:Roger that David - I shall have to speak to my highland connection and see what he comes up with. Otherwise I'll have to hope a certain bunch of covert gentlement come north to shoot deer again.
