It's also known that some elements of 48 RM Commando had No.5's during the fighting in Holland in late 44 and early 45.

Thanks guys, it confirms what I though, the No.5 seemingly was issued in small numbers to some Commandos in later '44 and widely issued in '45 to 6th Airborne.
Shame some have to BS the story

Morning all,
Unfortunately some RFD's act more like second hand car salesmen when it comes to milsurps, the No5 is a fascinating rifle as it is, with an interesting history, no need whatsoever for the BS !
Talking of "flights of fancy" I laughed till I cried this morning after catching up with the Enfield section on Milsurps, an armchair expert from another forum once asserted that some SMLE's had slightly oval chambers to allow the monsoon rains to drain from the bore when the rifle was loaded .... CLASSIC!
Also in the same thread, how to bed a No5 with cut pieces of card board, credit card ... and bits of coke can!
Now that right there is entertainment, talk about amateur Gunsmithing!

Too true it's entertaining, anybody worth their salt knows the real professionals only use Dr Pepper cans Much better quality can
