Where to look for my Mosina?

The Wirksworth gun room has two really nice ones, the owner was tellin me they were from newly released stock or something. One of them has an original scope.

The recoil from an M38 carbine flinging a 149gr projectile down the range is no worse than your average .308WIN round. My M38 is fairly consistent and 300 metres is no problem for the 7.62x54R. As suggested, Derek at Simplyfirearms usually has a few in stock. These are hardy, robust firearms and quite probably the best bang you can get for your bucks in centrefire although you should remember that they were made for minute of men shooting(and not target shooting).
I would probably avoid the 'sniper' variants of the long rifle as there are far too many copies out there. The triggers on most Mosins are fairly poor but they are easily changed over (10 minutes) to a genuine Finnish trigger which can be picked up on ebay for around £20. The trigger swap really makes a difference.

In summary, this is a loud, powerful, in-your-face firearm for not much money and the surplus ammo is cheap. What's not to like?

You could maybe give Ryton Arms a call too - they deactivate rifles but often keep a number to sell as sec.1 and, if they still have some, their prices are very, (and I mean very), competitive.

Of everything out there at the moment I'd go for the Hungarian 91/30 at CW Classics (he's called it a carbine but it's really a 91/30). Simply Firearms 'refinishes' his stocks if that floats your boat. By Sword and Musket has M39 rifles awaiting proof but they will be expensive. 'Reassuringly expensive' was how he once described himself to me!

There must be something wrong with my Steyr SSG P1 in .308 because its a pussycat to shoot compared to a M38 carbine. I got rid of my M38 and swapped it for the long rifle and the difference in my shoulder was considerable. Maybe I'm just old.

I'm looking at the long rifles and sniper variants I should not of sold the last one I had I hope to add one next month just waiting for my ticket to be varied. Just hope what I have asked for does not create any problems.
