was told it by a few people.

Possibly people wearing their belts back to front? It is common in the Western re-enactment scene for people to try to justify something because they like it.

as for period photos, they aren't going to show you that much, not like they are going to be a candid look into their everyday casual wear is it?

There are hundreds if not thousands of old photographs showing guys - and gals - wearing gun belts. I do not profess to have seen them all but I have yet to see anyone wearing the buckle at the rear.

what can i say? I'm certainly no expert, and I've never proffesed to be, I was just sharing some information. But remember I wasn't there in the West was I? It's just something I was told, more than once, and seem to actually make sense. and no, not all the folk saying had their belts on backwards. in fact at the last shoot i went to I think only 2 maybe 3 were doing this. I don't.

as for the pics, I said they weren't candid, not there aren't pictures. most photos are staged events, that took time to set up, were planned and you had taken in your Sunday best, showing off anything you might have been particularly proud of. might they have worn their belt differently for a picture? might these people have not ridden horses everyday? who knows?

I rest my case. Photo evidence of shooters in the North East shooting standing.

I said some of us, not necessarily me.

Good find, Rab. The buckle appears to be under the holster so there will still be cartridges at the rear of the belt.
