But if it really a scaled up AKM or RPK LMG, like the Vepr 12, then I can see the sense.

If it is built in the Motherland, it provides another product for their factories to produce using some of the original machines and maybe some new ones with minor mods ? It keeps their workforce in employment.

And ( again if built in Russia ) I bet it costs 10% of the cost of a Barrett in terms of labour and materials - so, customers who already buy the AK 100 series ( or even old 74's and AKMs ) will be able to buy a budget .50 from the same seller.

BUT......if this is purely a Yank enterprise, its a bit too expensive for what it is.

Like my Vepr 12 ( no way is it worth £1500 ) And I would not have dreamed of spending that on it. I swapped it for something that the seller needed, was worth £1500 to him and cost me £150 ish, so I am happy enough. In real terms, based on what it cost to build the Vepr 12 should retail at £500.

So, an AK50 built in Russia should sell for £2000 if there is no greed involved. But.................losts of middle men will have a slice of the pie.

Of course you can build an accurate AK, but there's a stigma associated with the name Kalashnikov which just screams inaccurate. I wouldn't be running to throw cash at this, I'm not sure anyone with any sense with that much money would... except for those who run youtube channels to show crazy guns from around the world

This is a US venture with no Russian involvement (KalashnikovConcern on sanctions list, and the 'sporting' side of the business is tiny compared to military production ) and although it may have AK furniture it isn't an AK as I said early.The receiver would have to be completely redesigned and made from billet steel as a stamped, or milled for that matter, AK receiver would never take the stress of a .50 round.

The stamped receiver AK type action is the base for the Romanian PSL rifle chambered in 7.62x54r and it is widely recommended that only light ball ammo (150-ish gr) is used as the recoil from heavy ball ammo (180-ish gr) knocks the hell out of the rear trunnion rivets which can eventually oval the rivet holes and loosen the trunnion......so there is no way the action would take the recoil forces of a .50

I'll take a pic of a .50BMG case on my AKM reciever later to give a comparison.

I offered up a .50 inert round to my Vepr 12 - I see what you mean !!
