It is more of a faff then corn cob but it does a much better job of making the brass shiny, inside and out and the pockets.

You will have to drain and dry the cases and still check the flash hole for media as they will rarely but sometimes get two pins stuck.

Now if you don't care, or believe, that the super shininess of the case matters (which it probably doesn't) then you might be better to get the corncob vibrating cleaners.
But as you are already set up to handle wet cases I would go with the SS tumbler as extra shiny cases are very pleasing to the eye.

ETA: got mine from JDR on here but I don't know if he's still doing them.

£94 plus £18 to DHL for tax. it's sat on my coffee table right now. seems to be doing what it should, although it doesn't seem to want to run in one direction, so I may have to mod the driven rollers to help it. thinking of trying some heat shrink to make it more grippy.

pins I got from optics warehouse (link on next page of the posts i've linked to) for £40

I ran it for 10 mins with just water and pins. then added 50rnds of 9mm that I have no plans to reload. they cleaned up lovely in 20 mins. so chucked in 100 rnds of 44mag in too (with the 9mm) plus about half a teaspoon of citric acid and a squirt of fairy.
after 20 min of running, water is rather black. but brass seems lovely and clean.

do i regret spunking £100 to try? nope!

magnet works fine, just need to work out best way to empty the drum now. I'm thinking drill and tap for a screw in type air filter, use a blank off for when running, when i want to empty, turn over, take out screw, fit air filter, over sink, turn over and drain - removing lid for airflow. then dumping brass out once most water gone. airfilter should let water out, but hold pins in.

Alan, its a piece of duff mate, honestly.

The great plus is that there is no residue (apart from the odd pin) and the WHOLE case is clean. Shiny? So what, its so bloody easy, no messing with cycles etc, just leave it an get on with something else.

And dont worry, if you leave it on all night with a batch of 308 onboard, they dont wear away to .223.....heh heh.

at the moment? yes, it is.

BUT

It was it's first ever use. with some minor modification I see it being supremely simple. I will make up 2 new lids. and make an air hole at the other end, with a plug. one lid will have very fine wire gauze. and will be used to drain off the water. lid 2 will have small holes in it, around .22 in dia, this will hold cases in, but let media out. I think this should make it an awful lot less of a faff. especially for the amount i can probably do at once

to put it in perspective, isn't BP shooting a bit of a faff? especially compared to modern cartridge fed guns? But we do it, for the result.

cleaning - faff, but necessary

licensing - faff, but necessary


is it anymore of a faff than vibratory tumbling? once you remove the water, its not that different. still have to make sure its out of the cases, still have to collect the media. but is walnut or corncob magnetic?
