Re: ammo at distributor prices
Also do bear in mind if even just 25,000 rounds is going to be stored it will take up a fair amount of space and weigh a lot. (800kgs) from memory last time. Part of our security was specifically based on how much ammunition we would hold and despite being in a low crime area the security requirements were rigorous and ran to several thousand pounds. Something to factor in when buying ammunition in bulk. Something else we found was the European exporters needed sight of our Open Import Licence despite it not being a legal requirement and we would not have got anything without an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and identification)
Apart from that it is easy, any large mainland European dealer should be able to supply, assuming that they want to after recent events.

One FAD I approached refused on the basis that, according to him, a sample of the batch would have to be tested ? Do you know anything about that David ?
Re: ammo at distributor prices
Froggy, that is a very good point however as it would be sourced from the Europe it would presumably conform to CIP standards. Of course assumption is the mother of all mess ups...
Consider Henry Kranks who import countless rounds of PPV every year from Serbia, the original round will have been built to comply with CIP standards or tested to CIP and probably periodically tested in-house however what about when they get to us here in the UK? Does HK submit sample rounds from every single lot or batch to Birmingham for approval or simply pop them on the shelf?

I had a chat with the guy in Kranks a few weeks ago - they get 18 tonnes worth of ammunition at a time from PPU. I think they said thats about six months worth.

I would assume that, just as we accept European proof standards, we accept their ammunition testing procedures too. Not sure how this applies to ammunition coming from the USA.

I was talking specifically about ammo coming from the EEU (Evil European Community).
Also since it would be individual buyers purchasing and not the FAD, acting here as a stocker" if that would apply ?

On my FAC I am allowed 600 rounds of 9mm not that is any of your business.breacher wrote:This has been discussed elsewhere by the same guy.
Talking about buying 50k rounds or something to get a good rate.
But was unable to explain how he will get authority to possess or purchase that many.
Also, good luck with trying to get any factory / wholesaler or whatever selling that many rounds to a private individual.
Out of interest, OP - how many can you possess on your FAC ?
I am perfectly able to explain how I am able to hold 300k rounds and store them but it is no ones business but my own. I asked for help which I have received and now have a quote that is reasonable.

Re: ammo at distributor prices
My research would lead me to believe there is very little margin on ammo at retail but a good margin for the distributor. Which he of course needs because of the expense of shipping, storage and opportunity cost of the working capital.snayperskaya wrote:I was surprised to hear what the trade price on a crate of 880 7.62x54r is.......I nearly cried!!!.

Trade price is nearly half retail, I was quoted £148 for a 880 round crate, until the guy realised I was a retail customer..........7.62x39 isn't far off either

As well as being rude it sounds to me like you are talking a load of tosh.breacher wrote:
