Remember - never feed from a mag unless you have to - slamming the delicate bullet meplat against the feed-ramp does nothing for accuracy.

Has it been chambered with a tight neck perhaps? I.e. intended to be used with turned neck cases rather than factory cases so if cases have a particularly thick neck section it may appear tight?

Yes its got a tight chamber. When I first got it I bought some Hornady match ammo because I wanted the cases. I tried chambering a round for test purposes the bolt was tight to close and I struggled to re open the bolt the bolt and round would not extract I had to use a rubber mallet to free the bolt and round from the chamber. I bought several different makes of ammunition and most had the same problem. It was only when I started measuring cartridge over all length and stuff that I realized how tight the thing is.
I then contacted the previous owner through the dealer I bought it off and he supplied me with dummy rounds and reloading data he had worked up for the rifle. Using this info and my own measurements I was able to build a round for it. Like I say it shoots really small groups and its a keeper but its not a rifle for a beginner who just wants to shoot bought ammo. It would be a headache to some one who did not reload. I believe the guy got it built for stalking all though its a heavy rifle to be lugging around the Country side.
I was told by the dealer that he traded this in for a very expensive factory rifle in 6.5x55 so he obviously liked the calibre.

Not a very good picture the rifle in front is the one I am referring to. It looks a lot better in the flesh.

Then the tight-neck would have been highlighted at Proof and engraved on the barrel.

Ah that's interesting there are some stampings on the barrel that I did not understand I'll check thats maybe what they refer to.

Look for a number and the letters NK

I have examined the barrel its stamped with NP there is some sort of symbol above the NP but I can not make out what it is. This is followed with 6.5x55 SWD SDP then LP over MM LP/MM

Don't know if that means anything. It means nothing to me except for the 6.5x55.

Doesn't sound like a tight-neck - as Ovenpaa says it would be engraved '284nk' .

Normally, the proof house would chuck in the 'go' and 'no-go' gauges, meaning that the chamber length is correct.
