Any member can have possession of a club firearm. Plod just ask that the place where it is normally stored is declared and recorded on the ticket. Each club firearm can be stored at a different members address. Club ammo can be stored too at a reasonable level for club use. This is all in addition to your personal agreed limits. The bit that needs clarification, is the purchase of ammunition by a declared keeper for club purposes? Will ask this question tomorrow...

Club ammo - mmmm, not sure about that one, particularly if you have an FAC and you've got club ammo in a calibre that isn't on your ticket, or you don't have an FAC and you're storing firearms or ammo.
Section 15(1), Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 is the only bit of law on this:
(1) Subject to subsection (4) below, a member of a rifle club approved by the Secretary of State [F2or the Scottish Ministers (by virtue of provision made under section 63 of the Scotland Act 1998)] may, without holding a firearm certificate, have in his possession a rifle and ammunition when engaged as a member of the club in connection with target shooting.
...
(4) The application of subsection (1) above to members of an approved rifle club may—
(a)be excluded in relation to the club, or
(b)be restricted to target shooting with specified types of rifle,
by limitations contained in the approval.

There are a couple of rifle club committee members on here so it might be worth hearing what their arrangements are. i.e. Does just the club secretary have the clubs FAC or do each of the committee members have one, or is there one club FAC with all of the committee members names (or just positions) on it etc?

In our club I am the chairman and hold the club FAC.
What we have done previously (when the previous chairman held the FAC) is when we were running low on ammo one of the personal FAC holding members would take the club FAC with a letter of authority to an RFD. We did this with 3 different RFDs, one was the NSRA Shop.
The letter stated the named member had authority to purchase a specified quantity of each ammo type required, some of the RFDs held onto the letter others didn't.
Hope this helps

FWIW - I'm on the committee at one of my clubs and I'm about to take on the club FAC. I'll be doing so at any rate - but if we could get West Yorks to agree then we'd be in a position whereby we wouldn't need to pass the club ticket around with an authorisation letter (which may be what we fall back to - good tip!) and all it would take is a quick call / sms / e-mail to see who could pick some ammo up and job done.
Thanks for the input all.
Nick

I should probably add this is only valid for ammo purchases, all firearm purchases I have done face to face in person.

My dad as sec holds the one and only FAC for our club, and did exactly the same to pick up ammo, authorisation letter and FAC so our treasurer could pick up ammo whilst at Bisley.
Surely this would be the way to get round your issue?
I've never heard of 2 club FAC's...

We had a discussion on here last year on the subject of multiple club facs, of course I can't find it (will keep trying) one club had multiple tickets so different members could deal with different club sections (rifles, black powder, shotguns IIRC).
One thing to note is - regardless of whether it's common or not - there's nothing in law that precludes multiple club fac's. I've read the acts and guidance top to bottom of late and there's nothing other than the mutiple officers requirement on the HO club approval (came in Jan 15) that comes close.

This is what I was trying to get at but I removed the part of the ammo being purchased on the club FAC as I couldn't find any mention of it in the guidance or legislation. I know it can be done for borrowed firearms (the estate rifle rules) but not for the club firearms/ammo AFAIK. It would seem the way to go..
I'm treasurer of one club and hold the FAC, previously I have been Chairman and Secretary of two other clubs and each time we only had (have) one FAC and the members borrow firearms as they need to. We haven't needed to have another FAC for ammo purchases as the clubs always have enough for the members' needs. In all the clubs there are several RFDs so even if it became an issue a couple of calls and ammo would no doubt arrive at the club as required. Maybe we are lucky and spoilt in this regard and haven't had the problems you may be experiencing.

If you are NRA affiliated, give me a call.
If you are NSRA affiliated, give Ali Aitken a call.
If you are neither, carry on.
