Er No I reload for my SP rifles and once new ammo fired through the action I neck size only. I buy 7.62x51 Nato GGG (not the target ammo) and .308 RWS & PPU factory ammo fire it, then clean, check length some GGG stretch, neck size, trim to 2.01 and reload using PPU 145gr or SMK 155gr bullets not had a problem firing then cycling the empty case of my reloads. Did buy a load of once fired RWS brass from the NRA this I did full length size once loaded and fired will neck size when needed.

I think you'll find that the L1A1 has a left hand cocking handle, which as a lefty ( I am right handed but lost the sight in my right eye ) I find awkward. Shooting from the right shoulder this means that you can keep your hand on the grip/trigger ( with the the right hand) and rack the bolt with the left.

I shoot my AR this way but obviously reversed ( left hand on grip/trigger, rack with the right )

IMHO this makes things very easy regarding staying on target.

I know Neal and have shot stuff he has "made", again IMHO it's good stuff.......

An alternative to the L1A1 is the Izhmash Dragunov......cheap to feed in 54r, smooth extraction with no problems and turns heads faster than Irina Shayk in the nip!.

I assume you're talking about ARB...The story I've heard is that he made some straight-pull L1A1's, Plod claimed they were illegal and confiscated them, and tried a prosecution.
Eventually charges were dropped and all the L1A1's were returned to him... (I've got one of them!)

They're now trying the same for the SKS's he was making, and that case is still on-going...


IMHO, regarding left or right cocking, for a normal right handed person, right cocking is preferable.... you can support and keep the rifle in the shoulder with you left hand while cocking with the right hand....unless you're shooting from a bipod when you can use your left hand to cock, so left cocking is preferable.

The L1A1's he was making were never claimed as illegal by plod (although checked by the HO first before being releasd back) as they were fitted with new barrels, because ARB was only supplied L1 parts kits ie no barrel, so had to machine new barrels from scratch, thats why mine Daryll was on the pi**.

The SVT40's & SKS's were complete rifles imported by a company for deactivation. ARB bought several of each to turn into Sec1 rifles sadly he did not do it to UK Sec1 standards so this is what he has been charged with. I was going to buy a SVT and he explained this to me where they came from prior to me paying a deposit for one, which I got back on the return of my L1 to him.

So the L1's were alright (A friend of mine has one and always worried about this, thanks for clarifying). It sounds like something wen't wrong in the process of doing whatever was needed. How are the ones (sks and svt 40) that oakrise selling made? He says from New parts, any story there?

Yes the L1's are ok like the others being built by Neal455 new barrels so no gas port.

What about the AK's from Oakrise? Valmont arms is also selling those (with a markup) as well? I'd add my friend had a typed letter from ARB at the time that sort of explained (from his half truth/lie version of events) what was going on (he was wanting a rear dust cover mount for his rifle that he eventually got from elsewhere). In hindsight the letter read as the weirdest, Walter Mitty Esque thing I'd ever read and I've read some real delusion stuff in my time. His L1A1 was never pulled, even during his renewal, so they knew where it was. I'm guessing they took a sample of ones to seize and check and once all came back clean, they realized it was worthless trying it for everyone in ownership (possibly also didn't have the manpower to do so)?
