Re: lead weights
The lesser of two evils I have seen barrels ruined by the very method you describe having the wood irretrievably jammed.
I use steel rods, with appropriate care, and have never had a problem.
Too each his own, but I cannot recommend wood.

Re: lead weights
I think using Oak makes a difference over normal dowelling. I was tempted to use lengths of brass rod until I read a horror story about someone who managed to get then jammed but my view is that is just down to being ham fisted, if the slug is obviously tight then stop immediately and reverse it a suitable rod.dromia wrote:The lesser of two evils I have seen barrels ruined by the very method you describe having the wood irretrievably jammed.

Douglas, what did it measure as in the end?
Re: lead weights

Re: lead weights
.311" sounds spot on, any loose spots as you pushed the slug through?
Re: lead weights
.311 is what Bnz's Nagants came out as. Looks like you got it right :)

Re: lead weights
.311 is correct for a Nagant.
Re: lead weights
Out of interest my 91/30 slugs out at .314 groove, .305 bore. Like the .303 they vary in groove size.
