Alpha, I was just going to machine a standard Sinclair type mandrel with a step up to .310" so I flare the first .030" of the case mouth. Is the Lyman expander any different to this?

The mandrel will work. I prefer to use a modified insert in a Lee expander die as in the picture attached. These two are not my work by the way the picture is from a post on cast boolits forum. But mine are the same I just could not be bothered to take a picture. NOE bullet moulds in the USA sell the expander buttons ready machined in all the use full sizes. They are not expensive the only down side is waiting for them to arrive from the USA. You really need to buy a few to make it worthwhile.

Improves the accuracy of cast and jacketed bullet reloads. Doesn't stretch cases like standard expander button style dies do. Works in a two step process, the first step expands the inside of the case neck to just under bullet diameter. The second step expands the case mouth to bullet diameter or slightly over so that the bullet can be started perfectly centered.

• M-Die expands the case neck to just under bullet diameter for precise neck tension in first step. Second step flares case mouth to bullet diameter or slightly over for proper seating.

Your Lee seating die will roll crimp if you set it properly...see the instructions with the die..I always use the Lyman "M" die wnen using cast and ..once again..if you set it properly you may not need to crimp. Set the "M" die to just open the neck enough to seat the bullet tight..do not set it to open the necks up like a trombone! What you need to do will of course vary with the cast bullet size.

The H & N high speed plated bullets have been found to be exceptionally accurate in the 30/30.....M die...no crimp required. Single feed for the RN....mag for the TC. The 30/30 will however usually shoot just about anything well out to 100yards.

I took the 30-30 out yesterday for testing and found it very accurate to shoot with 120grain RNFP and 6.6 grains of TB however it was also rather lacking in go and if I am to shoot 50/100 I need to wind things up somewhat.

Is there a UK source for H&N Bullets?
