If it's been lightly used with normal ammo and is going to be used again in about a week then I'll just run a boresnake through it.
Any longer then it gets a ballistol patch to clean, dried and then a fresh one to sit in the barrel.
Heavy shoot or once in awhile then 009 is applied first.
Corrosive ammo then its a wonderfully quick process of boiling the kettle, make a cup of tea whilst it cools a bit then pour it through the barrel and then dry (the British army issued funnels for this process, have one, bloody wonderful pieces of kit!)

Taking off the wood grips I used to put my ml revolver in the dish washer on a quick wash.
Worked great until the wife found out.

Pouring it down the barrel?! What a waste of a cup of tea, and doing so is distinctly unpatrioticdave_303 wrote:If it's been lightly used with normal ammo and is going to be used again in about a week then I'll just run a boresnake through it.

You could always try drinking the tea first.WelshShooter wrote:Pouring it down the barrel?! What a waste of a cup of tea, and doing so is distinctly unpatriotic

If Russian troops ran out of cleaning fluid they would pee down AK barrels as the ammonia in urine would neutralise the corrosive salts from Berdan primed ammo apparently.Les wrote:You could always try drinking the tea first.WelshShooter wrote:Pouring it down the barrel?! Significantly reduce the number of patches needed to clean your shotgun by putting a square of kitchen roll through the bore first and then again after scrubbing with the brush. Normally only need 3 patches now rather than 6-7

I like my guns just a bit too much (and they cost a bit too much...) to try and save a few pennies on cleaning. Just my way. Always has been. Ol' dog, no new tricks. :)

Putting patch wetted with a polar universal solvent* through the bore first will remove the surface fouling before starting your cleaning regime.
