Every army in the world stores the rifles with the bolts in. Just because he does not doesn't make it law or best practice.
I was just putting it across as another shooters view, as I said, I store mine bolt in, but with trigger pulled when closing, so not cocked and no tension on anything.

Bolt actions stored bolts out gives more space in the cabinet. Reason enough for I.

I always take the bolts out of my rim fires and lock them away separately from the rifles.

I store my bolts in my ammo safe I thought it was one of those you must do type of things incase they ever did a spot check I never questioned it before till now but it's really good to hear what other shooters are doing

I store with bolts in and and 'Springs Eased' / Firing Pin Forward. What do people do with Martini / Lever action rifles? E

on my martini international i pull the trigger as i close it.
on my greener SG i just pull the trigger on it
on my lever guns, i cock and let the hammer down

I remove the bolts from all my rifles and store (decocked) separately in another location
I do this primarily to give me more room in the cabinet but obviously, it also has a positive effect on security. I tend to agree that it's unlikely to be a legal requirement and most probably an 'FEO flavour of the month' issue.
