I had a Savage lever action .308 - nice gun and accurate too. It did need you to be 'assertive' when levering a new round into the chamber.

Doesn't surprise me 308 isn't a class round, pretty uncouth really.

I currently have them in 22 Savage Hi Power, 25-35, 303 Savage and 300 Savage, they all cycle and chamber as smooth as silk.

With its rotary magazine, including round counter, it will handle any bullet shape.
One question Dromia, how come Savage or no one else has thought to reissue the 1899? I know it had a 303 savage round (not the same as 303 british). Me thinks a 303 british version would be something great.

Can't hunt nothin' with a .357. Unless it's hand-to-hand range....... :o The action is gorgeous, and mine has put literally hundreds of pounds of meat on the table, year after year. Never had a stoppage or FTF in rain, sleet, snow or at minus 20'C. Most reliable gun I've ever owned, bar none. :good: :good: It's a working gun, not a range toy or a safe-queen. razz

Most shooter's taste is located just past their sphincters.

Have you ever used one?
No mate, I'd certainly like to though.

If I had easy access to a more capable range I'd be tempted with a different calibre, but .38spl is about the best I can manage, maybe one day :-)

It looks like a clever action, nice in takedown too.
The black label version would certainly get room in my cabinet!
Which version do you have?

Nice to shoot, Friend has one in 22 Savage. Although the Marlin 1894C is my favourite and used often, >25K rounds with only two broken firing pins. Must get a one piece type pin sometime.
