I was reading last night that they are badged up Sako but made by Colt Canada. Some Canadians are getting a bit hot under the collar as the unit price of these rifles is in the region of $12,000 :o

also why bother with all of this when a blaser is well known to be the best rifle (deep voice) IN THE WORLD.........
Wooden stocks are less likely to crack in sub zero temperatures.

I wonder what the number 4's cost and how that works out over how long they have had them?

Even normalising to match equivalent modern day prices probably significantly cheaper! I am also guessing that there were plentiful rifles available from Long Branch after the war either unused or refurbished along with plenty of spares.

Is this an accurate figure or the all-too-often-misused "total contract price/number of rifles"?

All I read was "The Canadian Gov. has spent $1.5 million on 125 test rifles thus far. That equates to $12000 a rifle."
Make of that what you will.

Well that does put a different complexion on the situation, $1.5 million for 125 trials rifles no doubt built to the required spec for the contest is not unreasonable. That figure would include other stuff as part of the trials process like on site support and detailed documentation. Also the bid will have to meet all sorts of compliancy regulations, that is the main reason why small companies rarely bid on such contracts.

Once they start pumping out of the Colt factory in Canada expect that cost to come right down.

Rip off of the Ruger Scout is a bit of a strong way to put it. It appears to be a variant of the Stainless T3 with Laminated stock:

http://www.tikka.fi/rifles/tikka-t3/t3- ... -stainless

Ruger hardly have the monopoly on the concept. Ruger or Tikka? Having looked at DW58's T3 and a Ruger Scout owned by a member of my previous rifle club I am fairly clear why the Finnish rifle won out in my mind!

Edit! Just remembered I have actually had a chance to shoot the T3 in .243 and .308, lovely slick action!

I don't think Tikka are ripping anyone off, they've been around the gun busines for much longer than Ruger after all.

Perhaps a passing physical resemblance to the Ruger rifle, but there the similarity ends. Having handled/shot the Ruger Scout Rifle, I wouldn't want to stake my life on it ... ... ... the Tikka T3 is a totally different proposition.

Hardly a problem when they're being supplied by the Government - going by the photos it looks like each rifle is supplied with a minimum of two magazines in any case.
