I suspect that the use of Lee moulds has contributed greatly to your lack of success.

For instance sticking bullets in the mould is a mechanical problem not a temperature one, the mould is poorly finished and will have burrs on the cavity edges which stop the bullet from dropping, these need removing.

Exact temperature isn't critical for most bullets but it does need to be hot enough and the mould needs to be kept hot too, I find it is better to start with a very hot mould, the sprue puddle takes a long time to cool and then let the mould coll down to a functioning temperature. Consistency of process and a steady cadence are key.

It cannot be that difficult as I manage it quiet successfully to the extent that don't shoot condom bullets any more in any of my guns, I have and use over 300 moulds in my collection. I wouldn't have made that investment if they didn't work.

I agree with dromia except that I use lee as well and have had no bother. The only time I get bother/sticking is when I haven't smoked the mould before hand, otherwise once heated up crack on and go for gold (lead). I have been disappointed with the lee production pot and went back to a cast iron pot on a gas stove with an old soup ladel for pouring the larger caliber bullets.

Yep Lee occasionally let a good mould go out for sale, I have a few myself and when they work, fine, but getting one that works from the box and drops to spec it is as about good odds as winning the lottery.

If you are having to persistently smoke your mould then there is an issue with it, light carbonising when you first get a mould can get you going if you haven't seasoned the mould properly and built up the oxidisation layer in the cavities. However I prefer to season my moulds well before use as I don't want anything in the cavities other than alloy.

These for indoor sub-sonic

Or these for outdoor with a gas check

ShellHouse are in Lancashire, not Durham :)

DodgyRog does a nice "Soupcan" boolit which works nicely without a gas check (3.4gr N310) or a heavier round nosed "Loverin" boolit with a gas check.

Bought some of the 165gn bullets from shellhouse and was wondering what powder you're using in the Handi rifle? Would like it to be as accurate as possible.

Thanks

For 25m 3.4 to 3.7gr of Viht N310 works very nicely indeed :)
