I almost spat my tea over the keyboard when I read this ...............
This has to be the first time I've ever heard anyone say that buying a Henry was a compromise compared to a Marlin!, chalk and cheese!, fit, finish, quality of workmanship etc. are all much better out of the box with a Henry!.

I'm happy with it, I suppose I've no practical experience of Marlins to compare it against, just the very loyal hordes of fans :-)
Took it to the range and was hitting some tin cans at 50mards well enough with .38 special, the buckhorn sights just seem a bit... Meh :-)

Bloke turned up at the club last night with a Henry Big Boy Mares Leg..... What on earth possessed him, I do not know. The only thing on it nicer than a Marlin? The bluing on the barrel. A huge clunky lever, a trigger pull that's possibly one of the worst I've tried and it was more ugly than saddler.... And it wouldn't shoot for toffee! Everything printed at least 8 inches high even with the rear sight elevator completely removed and the sight resting on the barrel. And don't even mention the scalpel like edge to the port in the loading tube! Feck me!
But, it did have nice bluing....

Mine shoots well and the trigger seems really good, not sure about the size of the lever or the edge of the loading port, neither bothered me :-)

My mares leg is fine. I have the standard loop on it and never noticed anything on the load tube. Shoots fairly well. But most importantly. It's fun! !
