Too small, no space for sammiches.

I use one of these. Big enough for loads of gear/ammo for several rifles, lunch, drinks/flasks, clothing etc. Plus its waterproof, you can use it as a seat (good height for sitting on if needed), and its also on wheels which means if you are carrying a lot of kit, you can put everything in here and drag it and only have to worry about carrying your rifle case in addition.

centre is a great size for mtm ammo boxes. takes the scope, pouches on either end have cleaning kits in them etc. if i pack it right, i can even get an mtm rest in it too.

It seems to be fully waterproofed on the base. I don't think that would be an issue.
You could always make doubly sure and line the bottom of the inside with something waterproof or absobent to keep away the moisture, but I think it would stand up on it's own :)
