proof house are now marking both ends of the barrels screwcut or not

they note serial numbers

when I send or take guns for proof they remove any protective material thats covering serial numbers, so I started to leave that bit exposed for them

then I noticed on the invoice that theres charge for proof, that would be new builds, but any donor actions that have been sent just to proof bolts and barrels, they are listed as reproof, so they obviously do record serial numbers

No, that's why they now (IMO) mark the barrel just back from the muzzle, that along with the date related proof marks means they could possibly tell if there has been any alteration at that end of the barrel.

Ah right! So what if you've a barrel with no proof on the front, how long has that been happening?

True. I had my No.4 project proofed and while the barrel, bolt and bolt head were all stamped, the receiver wasn't. I emailed the proof house asking "did rifle number XXX come through in the last two weeks" and all they did was wibble on about paying them more for a "full technical examination". Cheeky shysters only needed to look at their paperwork - so I conclude they don't keep any.

I hear both London and Birmingham have started placing proof marks close to the muzzle, so any barrel mods would obliterate the proof stamp (meaning reproof would be required)
Reproofing after threading is complete nonsense, just ridiculous.

The opposite on my new L1A1 Gaz, they stamped everything, barrel, bolt, carrier, receiver, gas block, flash eliminator and lower receiver!

The usual proof marks are further to the rear of the barrels, they just add another mark near the muzzle. It would most likely be easy to argue that; a) they never put it on, or; b) it wasn't a real proof mark as there are still proof marks on the barrel.

Either way there would still be the required proof marks on the barrels so the barrels would still be in proof.

So by taking an inch off my barrel and cutting a new dovetail for the foresight, I now need to reproof? ........ utter nonsense!

Just another way to turn the screw on us shooters.
I'm sick to the back teeth of this kind of rob-doggery. Why haven't our "national bodies" fought for us over this abuse of power the Proof houses seem to have?!

My 308 came already screwcut planning to fit a moderator. I have been told I would have to have re-proofed with moderator. But that unscrewing moderator would then take out of proof?!

So do I need to re-proof if screw-cut from factory - proofed as such - when moderator fitted.
