My club has been warned we're not covered by the NSRA when downloading ammunition. It's an outdoor 100m range rated up to 38spl energies/velocities. :-(

The Code of Practice should resolve the issue.

Do you know when the Code of Practice likely to be made public?

Hopefully not too long if the Insurers are happy with it.
I have made a few suggestions to amend it but they are not significant mainly grammar and terminology.
But then it is the NSRA we are talking about - hopefully also that their shooting manager will be kept away from it as he started this s**t storm in the first place as far as I am aware.

I have read it & I am not convinced the NSRA has the right competence & experience to manage this issue? why not get the MLAGB or the NRA who are involved with hand, down & muzzle loading for years to comment?

As long as NSRA issues range certificates that use confusing mixtures of terms about Muzzle velocity / energy vs pistol calibre centre-fire ammunition etc as i have seen there will be problems & the code may introduce more. Its not a code either its got a legal contract statement on the end that in effect says if you don't agree then your not insured & thus if the insurer can prove you didnt follow (or anyone on the range the day of an adverse event didn't?) then your not insured again.

Another example of Insurers off loading risk back to the insured for no fee but a great opening to not pay when we as clubs may indeed need it to pay out. My club will no longer consider NSRA affiliation because of this. NRA insurance & you are covered, unless negligent.

yeah, but what is the cost of NRA affiliation compared to NSRA? also, dont you still need to be NSRA if you want to shoot in the .22 postal leagues etc.

We moved to the NRA from the NSRA because of there lack of support, indecision, conflicting advice, their total ignorance, their rudeness and their negative attitude towards the subject.

The NRA was cheaper to affiliate to so we got better service, better advice, better insurance, informed support all at less cost

It makes no difference to members ability to enter as you cannot enter NSRA competitions unless you are an individual NSRA member anyway, the county leagues (like Durham and Cleveland) don't require affiliation.

I've just read the code of practice and I have to say I am singularly unimpressed.

General handloading safety stuff and the section on checking for pressure is still regurgitating the same old dangerous stuff about stiff bolts! FFS!.

Better than nothing but just another reflection on the poor quality and knowledge base of a governing body.

I could never recommend this document to a tyro handloader.

The NSRA are obviously still not fit to comment on full bore matters.

At least they have lined up their insurance ducks and cleared up the mess they created over this.

The NSRA will never be getting our club membership back that is for sure.
