The bullets only travel one way, and you don't pull any crap into the action of your rifle this way...

Thats exactly why the spear tipped are made the way they are, so you push them through with the patch on, and pull them back the patch pops off at the muzzle end...

You can't clean a VZ58 in the normal way because of the positioning of the barrel (i.e. chamber to muzzle pushing the rod). If you want to clean chamber to muzzle you have to insert the rod into the muzzle then screw the jag on and pull it out, hence needing an eyelet style jag

Gotchya...

Seems they have a particular jag for the VZ58 Cleaning kit...

http://www.zahal.org/products/sa-vz-58- ... eaning-kit

However, what about the Deluxe cleaning kit from the states...? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390966662898

I got an offer acepted for $45 and it was shipped quickly. I think they're the same as Breacher is selling in the FS section on here...

I think i will end up getting one of those Otis kits for the VZ as i'm not a fan the sectional rods you get in the VZ kit (or any sectional rods for rifles for that matter)

I had a sectional rod for my .22lr when I first got it. American threads, it broke shortly after and because it came as part of a kit I had t get an adapter to reverse the threads to British so I could use a Parker Hale rod and still use the jags and brushes that came with the sectional rod kit :(

I wouldn't waste my time on one again :(

Sounds like your doing it wrong dude.

Never had any issues...but maybe due to the way I was taught to roll the patch onto the jag; so it does not come off.

Use this method for normal cleaning and the occasional deep clean with P-H Motty Paste.

If you want any ProShot kit picking up let me know

What the Hamster said, get a big roll of cleaning patch and cut a strip off then roll it onto the jag, I use that as a first pass through my SSG-04 after a good brushing. Then onto the spear tip jag with copious amounts of patches (or cut up 1" bits of the roll patch). If you want to try one give me a shout, I have spear tips in .22, .30, .357 and .44 and a PH to 8x32 US adaptor :)

I've never been good at rolling my own! Plus its even more awkward doing it in the mag well of the VZ. I basically hate those types of jags! It takes <1 second to 'load' an eyelet jag, and would appear to be similar with the spear jags, as opposed to me fumbling about trying to get the patch caught on the other type, failing, swearing at it, having to soak it in cleaner then watching in a rage as it falls off as i put the rod in the chamber **** wallhead  lol

Wrap cotton around jag
Insert rod from breech
Attach jag to rod, by keeping a firm grip on jag & rotating the cleaning rod
Withdraw towards muzzle
Repeat

Have you tried ultra clean from Napier? It sticks to itself so might work better for you
