I thought we were spoilt for choice, up to a point.

And as for original specificaton handguns, I never catch all the news reports but I'm sure I'd have noticed any mention of Northern Ireland AND the Isle of Man BOTH leaving the UK; as in both those areas they never banned ownership of handguns & target pistol shooting is still going strong.

Given some mark-ups it'd almost be cheaper to hire a removal firm and relocate....

Sig looks nice but orrid trigger and sights. The k22 build is excellent quality and a fixed barrel aids greatly in accuracy. Not shot the sig but shot a k22 a lot and they're superb. And much cheaper. Don't be put off by the fixed barrel, it's an advantage.

The K22 did look good, but at the stand even the sales people were talking about the odd fault with the unit that they have had to work on over the last 12 months. Ref the trigger go the new competition version looks and feels very good.

As an old real pistol shooter, i much prefer the real deal and the Sig is as near as we can get in England. I like the fact it is my abibilty to hit the target with the firearm rather than aids like a fixed barel.
Plus the Sig is not much more than the K22 in X-Trim Plus @ £950.
So will still go for the Sig
Looks like the real thing, handles like the real thing, strips like the real thing. So it still wins on all front for me

You will be going well to get a new Sig P226 for 600 dollars in America. It would also depend on the version, there are over 20 different versions of the P226. By the time they go through a few dealers to get into the UK, and they get their cut unfortunately the price goes up.

In the real world of the Uk, if you want to shoot you have to pay. Mike is having to bring in the parts from the US then assemble to the UK spec and like everyone else needs to earn a living. So I still feel it's is the best pistol so far so if you want one you have to pay.

I fully appreciate a bloke has to make a profit and if you are willing to drop 1350 quid on a Sig, then good luck to you. But in all honesty, I reckon he's stretching it, which is why he'll probably only sell a couple of hundred instead of several thousand....

And a little food for thought, when LBR were classified as section 1, it was a hell of a fight. But the Home Office stuck a caveat on them that should the Home Secretary decide this classification of weapon in the UK was deemed "especially dangerous", then an ensuing ban would not pay out compensation. I even have a letter somewhere from my firearms dept that accompanied my first variation for an LBR.

"They" still don't like LBRs. Come the next parliament it is my belief we will have a new firearms act. I'm not looking to dissuade you from acquiring what you want, but despite what you think, there still is a choice ( and a number of places to shoot pistols in the British Isles, not just America....)

We are getting our wires crossed probably my fault, I was talking about full bore. I wouldn't want to pay much more than £ 400 for a .22 pistol, unless I was looking a target pistol.

I bought one of these for under £ 400 not a SIG but it shoots well, and is cheap practise for my .45 1911.

As an ex pistol shooter if I was considering spending that much on an LBP then I would sooner get a second hand Westlake M/L and put the rest of the money into extra cylinders or look at taking up Section 7.3 shooting and get a real pistol of some historical significance rather than blow all that money on a bast@rdised hybrid designed omly to get round crass, stupid and spiteful legislation at expense of the essence of what a pistol is.

And section 7.3 (shooting) appears to have a lot more latitude than section 7.1 (collecting). Seems the shooting aspect at a Heritage Centre is what you can give reason for, prior to 1997. A friend shoots 7.3 and owns a plethora of handguns including a Browning HP, Colt Python, Colt SAA and S&W 41...

But my problem with that, they're locked up somewhere other than your own home!

Ordnance, agreed, £400 is the limit for a "plinking" rimfire... But there is currently a Sig P226 in 9mm, on Guntrader for £695...!

Dromia, I too shot full bore pistol pre ban and I do miss them but I shoot a lot with a K22 and when you've got t in your hand with your sights on the target, there's absolutely no difference, you can't feel the rear weight and you can't see the extra barrel.

As far as I'm concerned its pistol shooting, certainly in terms of the discipline and skill side of it. There are some terrible lbp's out there but some incredibly accurate and well built ones too.

I get the sour grapes but I've not let that spoil my enjoyment of the sport of target pistol one bit.

Agreed if I couldn't have them at home I wouldn't have them. A bit like having a sports car, but you were not allowed to keep it in your garage, and if you wanted to drive it you had to go and drive it on an approved track and leave it there. I would consider a LBP if I had no choice.
