Is there any "licensing" required from Kalashnikov Conern? I can't imagine so. The design is probably 70 to 80 years old, made in all sorts of places, by all sorts of people. Happened so many times before that a company makes its own version of a particular firearm. 1911's, AR's, SAA's, CZ and Sig all spring immediately yo mind...

If someone seriously wanted to make an AK in the US then why can't they just tool up and crack on? Not much anyone can do I'd assume....

Well that's nice that they are not objecting, like I said there is more than one way to get around sanctions and if stating that helps do it, that's what they are going to say, gotta keep the US State Department happy. Hell who knows, we may now get an AK47 that doesn't group like a shotgun pattern.

That partly what makes the whole video so wrong, there are quite a few companies making AKMs in the USA already. AKs were never built under license anywhere as that is an invention of the running dog capitalists.

Points for anyone who said AR and HK-94 and spotted the other mislabelled sporting rifles..

The Russian Rostec Corporation, which is State owned holds a 51% share in KalashnikovConcern so the majority of KalashnikovConcern is therefore owned by the State.As KalshnikovConcern is named on the OFAC sanctions list and with all the interest in RWC/KalashnikovUSA on the net would they (RWC) really be able to co-operate with kalshnikovConcern without a sh*tstorm from the US State Department raining down?.

seriously though, if RWC/KalashnikovUSA go ahead surely all the parts will be US made as Russian parts can't be imported, and if Russian parts were by some chance used would they still have to be 992r compliant?

What sim said. Well out of patent, if anyone on full bore has the tools and the RFD, crack on and make and sell an ak47. Not sure there's much legal recourse aside from what you actually call it. Just like an AR15.

Hey should we ever get the chance I'll happily put any of my chrome lined AR's up against your target shredders any time Hell I have shotguns that group better with bird shot than any of the AK's.

what I meant regarding the majority of KalashnikovConcern being state owned is that it would make it a lot harder to deal with without drawing State Department attention than if it was a privately owned company that wasn't mentioned by name in the sanctions list

and as for your ARs......the AR/M16 was always more of a precision rifle capable of better long range accuracy than an AK ever was (there I've said it!) but the AR was designed more as a "rifle" than an "assault Rifle" (is that a fair comment?).If the chance arose i'd be interested in putting my Dragunov alongside an AR, with quality ammo of course!
