Wee green plastic bottle? Aye, we 'borrowed' that stuff too but was a bugger to clean. Usually just used the rifles dry but unfortunately wasn't an option with the A1.

In Norway, we'd drop the rifles into thick plastic bags and bury just at the entrance to the tents. Always remembering to mark the spot and warn everyone on pain of death not to p*** on the spot!

On the Russian Front, including Stalingrad, the Soviets mixed their gun oil with gasoline that gave it another ten to twenty degrees of cold to operate in ussrflag .

Usually the sensible way, see what the locals do. That's how Amundsen did so well in the Antarctic.

The problem is most lubes thicken in cold climes, but a majority of issues will be moisture in the guts of the thing freezing up and locking the thing solid or turning to slush.

Our aircraft used a low cold test oil that was very thin in normal temps but about normal in the very cold climates like Norway....mind you, not much help if the ruddy batteries dont want to play......

Sniperskaya's comment re thinned oil makes perfect sense if a bit niffy.

All I can say is as you lose weight....jees dont you feel the cold!!!! :o
