Perhaps once the ratepayers realize that the new range can actually make money for the city they may change their minds.

An unarmed population is an easy to control population whilst they do what they want with our tax money and watch as we struggle to survive in the world they create with no recourse as they lock us out by changing the laws.
They don't think of a united 'US' (UK) verses them (rest of the world). They think in terms of an US (politicians) verses them ("servants"/countrymen).
A Well trained highly marksmen'ised public would only be seen as a threat to them, not to those wishing us ill will.
Remember this is the Northern Ireland Bangor not the Welsh one - the population is not "unarmed" and most of them have a much better attitude to firearms than in the rest of the UK.

I was talking generally about politicians and their attitude towards civilians with firearms, but I take on board your point :)

Well that makes a nice change. What a Grade A muppet, still I suspect that most politicians depend on peoples general ignorance or being fed a leading piece of BS to curry support, well spotted. I missed that I have to say
A friend of a friend owns the old Army camp at Browndown. He has been quizzing me as to how/if he could legitimately use the 25m indoor range it still has and/or rent it to a local club.
I have suggested that of the FEO is happy he could have quite a lot of cheap fun with a ruger 10/22 or other semi rimmie, we will have to wait and see.
There are too few ranges about without the legit ones going down.
I remember the travisty when Mere got shut down. It was a cracking range that was surplus, IIRC the Dutchy of Cornwall was going to lease it to a local club on the grounds they maintain it for a peppercorn rent......int the interim the military bulldozed it!!!

I live in Bangor. There always was a small-bore range in the town but was housed in an old 'tin shed'. As part of a multi-million pound sports facilities development the Council included a 'protectile range' as part of their scheme. The range was to be a shared facility for archery and small-bore shooting and with an emphasis on wheelchair users. The scheme is designed as a community resource and is not being built for a private shooting club, as Wilson alleges. Wilson allegedly has form for being anti-gun and sees this as election bandwagon.

Latest ...
Wilson has today been out leafleting and through my letterbox (he's my local Councillor) appeared his newsletter. In it he states that he won't be standing for the new Council when North Down C is replaced by the East Coast C after amalgamation with Ards C in April '15. Anyway, he's bleating on again about "Stop the Gun Club" and hopes the new Council will reject the plans. He complained about the delay in plan approval costing an extra £1 million but fails to accept that the delay was partly due to his objections. What a dick!
Watch this space for updates.

If only we had a resident Journo who could point out the shortcomings of this politicians argument to the general public...
