The 16" LM308SS with SS barrel (the L129A1, sans semi-auto) is officially effective to 800m. That being a comfortable distance, 1000m shouldn't be too much beyond its capabilities. If I were regularly shooting at those ranges though, my LM308SS wouldn't be my first choice.

It's a nail-driver though, for sure. It shoots better than I do. When I do my bit, it's easily sub 0.25 MOA at 100m. Sub 600 and it's hard to beat for the AR platform. She's a big girl though - work on your other guns required if it's for CSR and the like!

Yup, a 16" barrel with 208 grain bullets and it does seem to work well albeit with long OAL's - Hopefully he will be along to explain more.

My view is the LMT is a good 600m rifle however it would not be my first choice for regular 1000 yard shooting.

what he said ! i've got one as well and im very impressed ! i can go from 0-1000 yards ! accuracy was very good but its not a target rifle its sharp shooter rifle ! never shot 1000 yards before, used the lmt with ggg nato ammo, wind was terriable but i managed to get all my shots in the black and my last shot was in the x-ring ! not bad for someone who never shot at 1000 before, with a short barrel rifle and nato spec ammo !

I can't speak for the rifle you mentioned, but with a 16" barrel, a .308 projectile will go transonic well before it gets to 1000 yards, which would say the long range accuracy would suffer. How much, I have no idea...

Really? I have a 16" barrel on my dta srs covert and easily hit 1000 still supersonic! It depends on your bullet and load dev to push it as fast as you safely can.

I've found that in short barrels heavy bullets loose the least speeds. I was able to drive the 175 smk @2550 but they just were not as accurate as the 208 Amax in my rifle. With uber short barrels the right powder is key to lessening your speed loss. Working up loads in uber short barrels is harder but worth while when you manage it. :)

We issue the LMT .308MWS with a 20 inch barrel (in direct gas impingement form of course) as a Designated Marksman's Rifle, and we have had fantastic results with it. The snipers are actually using the LMT in preference to the Accuracy International AWs.

If I had the money, I'd buy myself one of those LMT .308MWS rifles in a heartbeat, and would not feel disadvantaged in the slightest.

I have no experience with the manually operated versions, but since the component parts are the same, I don't imagine it would be substantially less accurate than the DGI version.

To be honest the straight pull manual version is likely to be more accurate without the gas system

Can't see how the gas system doesn't have a piston; its a direct impingement which is just hot gases driving back the carrier after the billet has exited the barrel

Most gas guns when run as single shot are generally more accurate mate
