Thanks all for you help and advice. Bill at Norman Clark gunsmiths who I sent the pics to straightened me out, he says the left ear has been left intact to allow the fitting of the original sight and that a Parker hale might not be solid enough on what's left so i'd be better going with the original sights, which he's found in the bottom of a magic drawer with all the screws and springs I'll need for £20. Top chap. Thanks again hitchphil for your offer, I'd have liked a target sight!

That's utter bo...cks mate.

The P14 military sight requires 2 holes for the axis pin, having closely checked your pictures you have 1 hole - the left one, the right is filed away & the only sight that will now fit the rifle now is a PH 5B or PH5C. When you discover the military sight wont fit or will only hang on a 1" long 2mm diameter screw locked into one hole (not 2) giz shout. I own 3 P14's they all shoot 1moa to 600yds TR sights.

I have copied this post here for your info. I don't think the original post will be here to morrow I think the mods will remove it or at least slap the guys wrist for trying to sell stuff. (Forum rules)

But he is right about the sight its been altered and the original sight wont work. If its only £20 buy it and try it. At least you will have the correct screw for some one to work the right pitch from. But I think you really need the Parker hale sight to get the rifle shooting again.

Thanks guys. How does the parker hale stay on the rifle given I've only got one left hand retaining hole to go at?

I completely see what you mean about the lack of a right hand hole to lock that screw into, the gunsmith said the exact opposite that a larger hale wouldn't fit and an original sight would be the least worst option so I figured for £20 I'd see how well t stayed in place. I'm not beyond asking a local chap to weld me a block on the right hand side and drilling and tapping it out.

Ps, the gunsmith said the Parker hale relies on some grooves on the receiver that he thinks have been machined off...

Firstly apologies last post was after a good banter evening with 5 pints so somewhat freer with my opinions :-)

I think a PH5B will fit but need 2 more pics to see - can you do n post? one of the spring on the left side but taken looking down 45 degrees & then the same but taken 45 degrees out from behind. even better is with spring removed or lifted back. reasonably close up.

If you lift the back of the spring out left (with screwdriver gently) is there a hole under it? If so that that is the hole that the pip in the bottom right of StandEasys pic of the sight goes into. On the other side of the sight is a slot the spring blade fits in that slot, the spring holds it in, the screw stops it rattling abt. So you need a screw that is about 4-6mm long enough to go thru what's left of the ear & in to the thread in the back of the sight block.

The 2 holes looking down on top of your 1st pic are redundant not used at all with a target sight. Google P14 target rifle & images see one fitted to see how it works. Its a slightly unusual mechanical fitting but its good when it works.

......... ask Norman of Norman Clark to show you if you are near him? am sure he will make it work.

If not bet option is to weld a lug on the left & bolt on a central sight mount then fit one of those.

What is on the front of the gun?
