I've been tempted by an MVP but am concerned about the robustness and reliability of the flap on the bolt. Also some reviews/discussion suggest the action isn't particularly nice (probably because of the unusual bolt design to work with the STANAG mags).
I thought the new .223/5.56 Ruger Gunsite Scout might be the answer - but I recently discovered it doesn't actually use a standard AICS mag, but a .308 AICS nmag with a special insert to reduce the size for .223/5.56, which is off-putting.
I'm now vaguely considering a CZ 527 (carbine?) - removable mags but only 5 round capacity.

The CZ 527 Carbine is a great little gun but the original .223 model has a 1:12 twist rate.
The newer version has a twist rate of 1:9 and you'll need to verify this before purchase.
A 7"-10" twist rate is required to adequately stabilize 65-69 gr. bullets and greater.

Sadly it looks like they are only brining in a small selection for the UK market
Varmint in 24" in 5.56 & 7.62
Predator 20" sporting profile in 5.56
Thunder ranch 18.5" varmint in 5.56

York guns got what they were given, so choice was limited, its not their fault!

Thanks - I had read that. Not sure if the carbine is still in production (in .223) but I think I'll look for some form of 527. I wonder how difficult it would be to get into the magazine manufacturing business and make some 10-rounders for it :)

Its a shame as I really liked the 18.5 predator as my first choice ...... guess I'll get a varmint and chop it down, the stock is going to be history anyhow and replaced for a MDT LSS

The Saddlery & Gunroom in Kent are also importing the Mossberg MVP. I bought a .223 before Christmas via a local RFD for £585. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but will be down the range this Saturday. Hope it shoots as well as it looks. The trigger is very good (compared with what I'm used to!)

Interesting, York Guns wouldn't be my first choice to deal with so if they are actually importing and not getting them from York Guns it may be worth a call

A strange situation for a country - the UK has TWO official importers for Mossberg
No idea WHY Mossberg came up with that idea...
From attempts to get a Rem 870 barrel from the more Southerly of the two importers, I'd buy from York Guns...as they seem to have a better idea of knowing the product range
